MYZONE: CHANGES FOR FERRY PASSENGERS
Ferry users are being encouraged to embrace public transport as part of the simpler fare structure announced by the NSW Government today.
NSW Transport and Roads Minister David Campbell said the new MyZone fare structure will reduce the number of fare bands on all modes of transport and introduce new multi-modal tickets that make public transport easier to use.
Under the MyZone system, five new MyTrain fare bands will replace the current twenty, three new MyBus fare bands will replace the current five, and two new MyFerry fare bands will replace the current five.
“Under MyZone, more than nine out of ten journeys across the public transport network will be cheaper or stay the same price,’’ Mr Campbell said.
MyZone aims to standardise discounts across trains, buses and ferries which will mean the discounts on some ferry tickets will decrease. MyZone includes the first ferry fare increase since January 2007, even though rail and bus passengers have faced annual increases, including most recently on 3 January.
“Weekly ferry commuters should consider using a MyMulti 1 ticket, which gives you unlimited travel on all Sydney Ferries and bus services - public and private – plus inner City train travel for $41,” Mr Campbell said.
“For example, a person travelling via bus and ferry from Pittwater to Circular Quay each day will pay $41 a week under MyZone – a saving of $19 a week on the current price.”
A single ferry ticket from Manly to Circular Quay will increase from $6.40 to $6.60 however MyZone rewards commitment to public transport. Regular commuters over the route who pay $48.10 for a FerryTen now should consider buying the $41 MyMulti 1 ticket, which gives unlimited ferry and bus travel for a week.
