Sorry
Like many progressive social organisations, Labor actively campaigned for an apology to the Stolen Generation for well over a decade, recognising the importance of this step in the reconciliation process.
When Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made the apology his first item of business in the 42nd Parliament, it was not only a momentous first step forward for reconciliation, or the fulfilling of an election commitment. It was a remarkable achievement for all those who had tirelessly campaigned for an apology to be made.
Apologising to members of the Stolen Generation has been a long-standing policy of the Federal Labor Party. Across the States, Labor Governments have led the way in apologising at these levels too.
