Young Labor

Today's Activists. Tomorrow's Leaders

A message from the Young Labor President.

Young Labor gets out there and changes Australia by campaigning on issues we are passionate about while helping to elect Labor Governments. Young Labor is not an organisation that just postures or sits on the sidelines.

Our campaigns have helped to bring an end to mandatory detention for children, established the youth radio station Triple-J and abolished full-fee charges for domestic students attending University.

Joining Young Labor will give you many opportunities to voice your views and shape the future of our country. You will also build valuable skills, travel across the state, meet new people and make life-long friends.

With reform to the way YL works, we've brought back the Young Labor Youth Council to bring on great debate. Come along to the next Youth Council meeting.

There’s always something happening in Young Labor with plenty of support from leaders and mentors in the Party who regularly attend our events held throughout the year.

If you want to be part of the team that is building a better future for Australia, then Young Labor is the place for you.

I hope to see you at an event soon.

So what is NSW Young Labor?

NSW Young Labor has a history spanning more than fifty years, with former Presidents including some of Australia’s great Labor figures, like Paul Keating and Bob Carr. Many other former NSW Young Labor members are still rising through the Party, including Verity Firth,  Carmel Tebbutt, Michelle Rowland, David Bradbury, Tony Burke and Chris Bowen just to name a few.

Harbour Cruise

NSW Young Labor hosts an annual harbour cruise every Boxing Day. The event is always popular, and provides a great opportunity for people to catch up with old friends, and meet new people from across the State.

Young Labor vs. Young Liberal Debate

Every year, Young Labor takes on the Young Liberals in the 'bear pit' of NSW Parliament. This combative event is always popular, as Young Labor justifies why the ALP is the better Party to govern Australia.

Bob Carr History Lecture

NSW Young Labor is privileged to host Bob Carr's annual history lecture. In recent years, members have heard the story of how Mr Carr joined the ALP and how being involved in politics helps to build a better future for Australia. The lectures are interspersed with colourful anecdotes from Mr Carr's time as Premier, and from his favourite areas of American and Roman history.

Union Summer

The Union Summer training program puts members on the front line, where they learn first hand how to organise and activate people to ensure that they get a fair go at work.

McKell School

This training event, named after former NSW Premier William McKell, is an opportunity for members of NSW Young Labor to learn political skills from former Young Labor Members.

Campaigning

Whether this means campaigning for Labor representatives in Parliament, or lobbying Labor MPs to support textbook subsidies or protections for young workers—we always get out there and make our voice heard.

Are you passionate about an issue?

Then bring it along to a Young Labor Association meeting and help us campaign for a change.

As the ALP’s official advisory body on youth policy, we have a bigger say than ever before.

Come along with your ideas for change and be a part of the organisation that can make it happen.
