Graham West MP

Member for Campbelltown

Minister for Juvenile Justice.

Graham West was born 21 September 1973. He is married to Tanya and has 3 children. Graham competed at the National finals for cross country skiing while at High School, completed the Murray Marathon for kayaking and participated in fencing. He is an advanced Fire Fighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service and enjoys bushwalking, photography and fishing.

Graham West entered NSW Parliament in 2001. In 2007 following the State Election he became Minister for Gaming and Racing and Minister for Sport and Recreation.

In a little more than a year he has finalised the most comprehensive reforms to the Liquor Laws in 25 years, and announced the Government’s response to reviews of the Thoroughbred Racing Act and the Gaming Machines Act.

He tackled the alarming rates of problem gambling among young people head-on by rolling out a series of education kits in schools and implementing an online campaign. He put a stop to poker machines going into problem areas, and he ensured NSW remained a One Casino State.

As Minister for Sport, Graham West announced funding of $6 million for more than 300 regional and community sport and recreational facilities around NSW.

Graham West became the Minister for Juvenile Justice and Minister for Youth and Volunteering in September 2008. He now welcomes the opportunity to address the issues facing young people in NSW and to assist juvenile offenders and their families.

As Member for Campbelltown, he represents one of the youngest areas in the State and he knows how vital it is, not only to provide services for youth but to engage with them and make sure their voices are heard in the halls of power.
