    Active weekend for older adults

    Sport and Recreation Minister Kevin Greene said a new program offering older adults the chance to enjoy an active life will be held this month.

    "The Active Life Weekend will be held from Friday the 26th to Sunday the 28th of March at Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Centre," Mr Greene said.

    "Older adults have alot to gain from an active lifestyle like improved physical health, mental health and social connections.

    "The Active Life Weekend at Lake Burrendong provides a safe and fun environment for light physical activity and social recreation.

    "It promises to be a fantastic experience with activities including:


    • Lifeball (a ball game designed to challenge the brain and getting you moving);

    • Pole walking (walking with the assistance of poles);

    • Archery;

    • Aqua aerobics;

    • Gentle exercise;

    • Tai Chi;

    • Bush dancing;

    • Early morning walks;

    • A concert on the Saturday night and

    • BBQ in the great outdoors.


    "I strongly encourage older adults to make the most of this opportunity to kick start an active lifestyle, because it’s never too late to get active," he said.

    Bookings for the Active Life Weekend close on Friday the 12th of March. The program costs $135 including all activities, accommodation and meals.
