Barry O'Farrell must take action to end the escalating gun violence playing out on western and south western Sydney streets, Opposition Leader John Robertson said today.

Five shootings have taken place today and there have been 20 shootings this month alone.

In 2012, we have been hit with at least 48 shootings.

Since Barry O'Farrell took office, our city has been hit with 90 shootings.

"Families are living in fear and Barry O'Farrell is doing nothing to stop the escalating violence on Sydney's streets," Mr Robertson said.

"The Premier must take action today."
