Historical Speeches

The history of the ALP is not just written in the institution's documents and in the election results. In the history of the Labor Party it has been the speeches given by prominent members and leaders which have articulated our ideas, plans, and achievements.

While many of the speeches given by prominent Laborites have been lost to history, some remain to inspire and to record the past and present ideas of the ALP. Our Party has included a number of famously impressive public speakers, and Labor's speechwriters have been leaders in advancing public debate.

From the prosaic and pragmatic, to the laconic and informal, to the inspired, radical and motivating, these are a selection of some of the ways Labor speakers have explained what the movement is all about.
